The Exeter Freshers' Week app - coming soon...

If you haven’t already seen a QR barcode, it looks like this (this one will link to the campus map focused on the University Library)

Using your Smartphone to find your way around campus

There are several ways that you can use your smartphone for finding information and wayfinding:

Freshers' Week App - coming soon...

The ExeterWW App is your free smartphone guide to Freshers' Week at the University of Exeter. Access vital information such as the latest news and details about arrivals as well as your events guide.

The app is available in both iPhone and Android formats and can be easily downloaded through the App Store or Marketplace

Layar

Layar (http://www.layar.com) is a "beautiful, fun augmented reality app that shows you the things you can't see". It's a way of using the camera on your smartphone to 'augment reality' and show points of interest around you, including real objects, such as cafes, bars and the like, and virtual objects, for example Wikipedia entries or people using Twitter.

You can read more about Layar, including details of how to access University of Exeter information using it, at our Layar ‘Augmented Reality’ Browsing webpage.

QR Codes

Use QR codes around campus to help find your way around. Most smartphones (e.g. iPhone, Blackberry, & Android phones) can run a QR application that can generally be downloaded free. Further information can be found online at http://blogs.exeter.ac.uk/wip/qr_codes.

Whenever you see one of these codes (whether on a sign, notice, flyer or webpage), you can point a QR-enabled smartphone at it and retrieve a particular location on a map. While viewing the map on your phone you can choose to ‘get directions to here’ from your current location and view streetview imagery. By clicking on one of the information ‘pins’ (such as the i symbol) using a computer you get information or even a street-level view of where you are or of where you want to go to. The maps can also be retrieved using any web browser online at http://www.exeter.ac.uk/visit/directions/library.
