This welcoming, cosy café is ideally situated for soaking up Exeter's ambience located at the edge of the Cathedral green with lovely views of the City's historic buildings and great food. The menu, which is is vegetarian/vegan and uses organic ingredients, ranges from a selection of freshly cooked quiches and flans with a wide range of salads on offer to beautiful cakes and desserts. Hot and cold drinks are available to sit and drink either inside or out as your watch the world go by. A small independent chain of family run Westcountry cafés The Boston Tea Party pride themselves on serving outstanding tea and coffee and creating delicious, original affordable meals. The coffee is made using freshly roasted 100% Arabica beans which are never more than ten days old, all the teas are loose leaf chosen by local tea tasting specialists and over 80% of their suppliers are based in the West Country ensuring they use the best of local produce. Not really a café, but still a great place to quench your thirst in possibly one of the tastiest ways possible. Shakeaway produce milkshakes (with dairy free options available) in pretty much every flavour you can imagine from bakewell tart, strawberry trifle and crunchy nut cornflakes to gooseberry, custard creams and tic tacs. Exeter's Shakeaway opened just last year but is surely a firm favourite already amongst Exeter students and the rest of the City to boot. They even offer a 10% student discount with a photo ID card. Tea on the Green

Tea on the Green is a traditional English tea house with a twist. Located in a beautiful listed building with fabulous views of Exeter Cathedral service is excellent, prices are surprisingly reasonable and the outside tables are perfect for people-watching. Tea on the Green aims to offer old-fashioned courtesy and genuinely friendly service, together with a menu that unites influences from around the globe with modern classics. Quality ingredients are their top priority with a passionn for using local suppliers, even their marmalade and apple juice come from individual local specialists. They also serve local beers, ciders and wines from English estates. Bookings are taken for lunch as it’s often full. There is plenty of choice for vegetarians and a whole range of gluten-free options. On Sundays the traditional roast is very popular – high quality and good value too. Choose from a range of cream teas, from a savoury cheese tea, to the traditional scone, cream and jam – or even a Marmite option called Love it or Hate it. Herbies is a  lovely vegetarian restaurant that has a very relaxed café atmosphere during the day and a friendly restaurant ambience in the evening. Although a vegetarian restaurant you'll be spoilt for choice with delicious dishes to choose from that will satisfy meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Herbies provides an incredibly extensive range of vegan options too. Prices are very reasonable from around £2.25 for a starter and £3.50 for a substantial lunch option up to approximately £9.50 for a large, delicious evening meal. There's also a great variety of desserts on offer which start from around £2.00 and range to approximately £6.00. The 'Heaven in Devon' dessert should not be missed!

Located on the beautiful Cathedral green this restaurant has established a reputation locally for serving one of the best 2- or 3-course lunches in the City. The short lunch menu changes weekly, depending on what is available and in season, and gives a real taste of the stylish and high quality cuisine at an excellent value price. This is a great place to get a good value meal either for lunch or for an evening meal.
