Eat, drink, watch and listen

Eating out

For a relatively small town, Falmouth has a fantastic array of cafes and restaurants, with something to satisfy every palate. From pub grub to international cuisine, its diversity never disappoints. To cater for the student population many of the local restaurants offer discounts and great deals.

Many of Falmouth’s restaurants pride themselves on using the best local produce to create delicious dishes. Below are some options that you should definitely consider:

5 Degrees West

For the ultimate sophisticated pub grub head to 5 Degrees West. The classic 5 Degrees burger comes highly recommended with other bonuses including huge portions, a great atmosphere and affordable prices. On Monday nights during term time look out for their 5-5-5 deal which includes 3 main meals from their specials menu for £5 each. For all other times they offer a student discount of 15%.

Harbour Lights

This is a great place to taste the local seafood at student rates. It overlooks the sea and is an ideal venue for a mid-afternoon feast. The scampi is fresh and tasty, although the haddock is usually the favourite amongst most students. It’s a tradition in Falmouth to take your fish and chips and enjoy your meal outside on the pier – lovely.

Rowes

In a rush and needing sustenance before heading into a 9am lecture? Grab a pasty from Rowe’s, with loads of different fillings to choose from. It’s probably not surprising, but pasties really are a part of the culture here!

Pea Souk

Pea Souk is a vegetarian restaurant where great food is accompanied by a homely atmosphere and comfortable seating. You can pick from a variety of soups, sandwiches and salads, and the falafel is always a favourite. Pea Souk have a strictly fair trade policy, use local produce and put a lot of care and attention into their food.

Miss Peapod's Café

Over in Penryn, right on the river, Miss Peapod’s Café serves delicious local, organic and fair trade food with a good veggie and vegan selection. Champions of sustainability, even their wooden floor had a previous life in a club in London!

If you’re looking for something more familiar, Falmouth comes equipped with many well known chains including Pizza Express, Prezzo, Xen Noodle Bar, Burger King, McDonald’s and Domino’s.
