Exeter has so many fantastic cafes and restaurants as well a good selection of takeaway outlets so you definitely won’t go hungry whilst you’re here. The Plant Café-Deli

Situated at the edge of the Cathedral green, this cosy cafe is ideally situated for soaking up Exeter’s ambiance. The menu is vegetarian/vegan and uses organic ingredients the food on offer ranges from a selection of freshly cooked quiches and flans to beautiful cakes and desserts. Hot and cold drinks are also available to sit and enjoy either inside; or on the courtyard as you watch the world go by.

This is an ideal place to not only have something to eat or drink, but also to check out the latest live music, DJs and stand-up comedians.  As the Exeter Phoenix also produces a wide variety of performances, special offers are also sometimes available from the cafe if you buy a cinema ticket and meal together.  Student are also eligible to a 20% discount.

Throughout the day and early evening the Exeter Phoenix cafe serves a wide variety of food with locally sourced ingredients, including a children’s menu, a variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options and a locally roasted range of coffee. A fully stocked bar with continental beers, local ales and organic soft drinksis also available. The Cafe Bar has full WiFi access.

Boston Tea Party

The Boston Tea Party is part of a small independent chain of family-run West Country cafes and serves a variety of hot and cold food and drink. The coffee is made using freshly-roasted 100% Arabica beans which are never more than ten days old and the tea is always loose leaf and chosen by local tea tasting specialists. Over 80% of the cafe’s suppliers are based in the West Country ensuring it uses the best of local produce.

The Boston Tea Party sources ethically sound products, suppliers, offer fairly traded coffee, use organic milk in its coffee and tea, use only free range fresh meat and eggs and recycle, reuse and reduce waste whenever possible.

Tea on the Green

Tea on the Green is a tea house with a twist. Located in a listed building with views of Exeter Cathedral, the cafe sources many of its ingredients locally - even its marmalade and apple juice comes from local specialists. Tea on the Green also serves local beers, ciders and wines. It is possible to make a reservation for lunch.

There is plenty of choice for vegetarians and a whole range of gluten-free options. On Sundays the cafe serves a traditional roast. Choose from a range of cream teas and complement it with a homemade chocolate brownie or local ice cream.

 

Michael Caines at ABode Exeter

Located on Exeter's Cathedral Yard, Michael Caines offers a variety of different cuisines. One of the simplest ways to eat at this establishment is to book between 6 - 7pm Monday to Saturday and opt for the Early Dining menu.

There is also a champagne bar serving cocktails, beers and spirits.

Harry's Restaurant

Built and run by the Pounds family, Harry’s offers a selection of different cuisines in a location near the city centre. Will Young is known to have worked there whilst a student at the university.

Harry’s uses locally sourced produce wherever possible and the restaurant ensures that the meat comes from farms with high standards of animal welfare.

On the Waterfront

"Perched on the edge of the historic Exeter Quayside, we are housed on the ground floor of a magnificent 19th century warehouse. This building and many like it nearby served the booming woollen industry of the mid 19th century."

Open everyday till 9pm, the restaurant is well-known for their 'dustbin-lid' pizzas with a wide selection of toppings which you can also mix and match.  The menu also offers a selection of pasta dishes, salads, fresh fish and meats.  With cosy indoor seating and beautiful outdoor views, On the Waterfront is a great meeting place both in the summer and winter months.
