How we can help

The Students' Guild and FXU have several services available to support or advise you, if you need it. Whether you need someone to talk to, help with accommodation, or you have a problem with your course, there is always someone who can help you.

Advice

The Students' Guild Advice Unit and FXU Advice Service are your first ports of call for free, independent and confidential advice on a range of issues, including housing, finance, childcare and academic concerns.

You can visit the Advice Unit on level +1 of The Forum. We are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm throughout the year (excluding bank holidays) Alternatively you can telephone us on 01392 723520 or email us on studentadvice@exeter.ac.uk. You can also access our web based information at www.exeterguild.org/advice

The FXU Advice Service is available on the Tremough campus for our students based in Cornwall. Their office is located in the Annex. Please see Advice Service for details of opening times and how to contact them.

Voice

Voice is a listening and information service run by students for students, available from 8pm to 8am every day during term time. The service is completely confidential and you'll get through to one of our trained student advisers, who'll be able to help you. If you need information, Voice can help you with train times, travel info and even where to get a takeaway. Phone: 01392 724000, or visit www.exetervoice.co.uk

Academic Representation

We hope your academic experience at the University goes smoothly. However, sometimes you might have a problem with your course. The Students' Guild and FXU have a number of ways to help.

Exeter campuses

If you are based at one of the Exeter campuses in your first few weeks your course will elect a course representative, who will be responsible for communicating students' problems to the University. Each subject has a subject chair who co-ordinates the course representatives and plays a key role in communicating issues relating to your academic experience to the Guild and the University.

If you have a problem with your course:

Step one: Speak with your tutor
If that does not solve the problem, then:

Step two: Speak with your course representative or chair
If that does not solve the problem, then:

Step three: Contact the Vice President Academic Affairs at guildacademic@exeter.ac.uk

Cornwall Campus

If you are based at the Cornwall campus you will find FXU are involved in representing students in academic issues in a number of ways including the FXU Presidents representing students on a number of committees and boards such as the Uni-Guild Liaison Group, and Student-Staff-Liaison Committee. There are also Student-Staff-Liaison-Committees whereby a student rep is elected from each year of each course, through this system and termly meetings students have the opportunity to raise issues with academic staff and provide student feedback to those staff.

Students are encouraged to raise any academic issues they have through their College/subject representative. To find out who the student rep is for your course/year group and for information on these meetings see the academic representation pages on the FXU website (or just come and ask at FXU or your College administration office or the ASU).
