What you can do
Students' Guild Societies
Whatever your interests, you should be able to find the perfect society for you. If you can't, you can set up your own. Over 8,000 students join a society each year and there are over 150 of them, ranging from film (CinSoc), musical (Campusbands, Soul Choir), dramatic (Exeter University Theatre Company, Footlights), campaigning (Amnesty International, Free West Papua), creative (Artsoc, Razz My Berries), faith-based (Jewish Society, Islamic Society) as well as some of the more esoteric ones (ChocSoc, X-Rated Society), among many, many more. You can join one or two, or as many as you like – it’s up to you.
To find out more about the Exeter campus based societies – and how to join – visit the Students’ Guild societies pages.
FXU Sports & Societies
There is currently a wide range of Sport and Recreation activities available at the Penryn Campus. FXU believe that by getting involved in activities outside of your studies you get the most out of your university experience. It's a great way to meet like minded people, try out new activities as well as gaining useful experience, which looks great on your CV and enhances employability. Since many activities are subsidised by FXU we aim to make even the more expensive activities as affordable as possible. FXU clubs are non profit making, and any money generated by a club will be used to benefit its members.
The clubs and societies here at the University change according to the skills and enthusiasm of new students, if your favourite pastime or sport is not represented and you can get together a group of like-minded students (we suggest a minimum of 10-15) then we may be able to help you start a new club. Take a look at the 'set up your own' section or contact the FXU Sport and Recreation Team for further information. FXU aims to offer a wide variety of sports and recreation activities according to student interest, as well as being able to put you in contact with community clubs and groups in the local area.
See the FXU society pages for further information on the societies based at the Penryn Campus.
Volunteering with Community Action
The Students' Guild and FXU provide excellent volunteering opportunities with the community volunteering organisation, Community Action (CA) which runs at all of our campuses and is one of the most active groups for student volunteering in the UK. Volunteering can provide you with valuable experiences, good friends and a rewarding sense of helping others. Find out more by visiting the Community Action website.
At the Exeter campuses you can also get involved in the fundraising group Exeter Raising and Giving Charities Appeal (RAG). For further details visit the RAG website.
Students' Guild X-Media
X-Media is the collective name for the four student media based at Streatham campus. We have a newspaper (Exeposé), TV (XTV), radio station (Xpression FM) and a website (X-Media Online).
Exeposé is the fortnightly campus newspaper. With news, features and sport, it's the best place to find out about what's going on at uni. Whether you want to write a review or help put the paper together, there are plenty of opportunities to get stuck in. Find out more by visiting the Exeposé pages on the X-Media website.
XTV is Exeter's award-winning student television station. With a broad range of shows, such as comedy, drama, factual, news and music, XTV has something for any audience. Even if you've never held a camera or presented a show, it doesn't matter as training is provided for all members. It's broadcast online on the XTV site, and on plasma screens around Devonshire House.
Xpression FM is the campus radio station. One of only three student radio stations in the UK to broadcast on FM, Xpression's mix of popular daytime shows and specialist evening output ensures that everyone has something to listen to. There are plenty of opportunities available, from presenting to creating jingles and helping promote the station and it's shows. Tune in at 87.7FM, or online on the Xpression FM site.
X-Media is a unique website, which houses the other three media while itself creating up-to-the minute news, reviews, interviews and more besides. All of Exeposé, XTV and Xpression FM's output can be found on X-Media Online, while the online calendar keeps you up to date with what's going on around campus. Visit the X-Media Online website to find out more.
