Learning skills

Mature Student Days are designed to help students refresh their academic skills and are open to all full time and part time undergraduate and post-graduate taught students (PGTs), aged 24 and over joining the University this academic year. You can chose to attend Monday 10 September or Wednesday 12 September. They are an opportunity to meet other mature students, learn about studying at the University and refresh skills such as time management, referencing and essay writing. If you are interested in attending, please email Sarah McCarthy, Academic Skills Adviser in Education Enhancement

The Student Academic Skills Service offers a range of workshops and tutorials that provide guidance and information on all aspects of learning and study skills. Many students who have been out of formal education for some time find these particularly useful.

Around a quarter of our full-time undergraduates at our Cornwall Campus are mature students, and many tell us that the smaller scale of the campus makes their transition back into full-time study easier. Our smaller teaching groups mean you won’t get lost in an over-crowded lecture theatre, and there is a wide range of support on offer to guide you through your studies.

Childcare

The University of Exeter provides a purpose-built Family Centre on the Streatham Campus which is available to University staff, students and parents from the community. The Cornwall Campus is serve by the Woodlane Nursery in Penryn. You may be entitled to the Childcare Grant - The amount you receive will be dependent upon your household income and is based on 85% of your actual childcare costs.  For more information visit the Student Finance England website.
