The Student Information Desk is a single gateway for you to get the answers to your questions about a variety of different Student Services Departments.

Your UniCard

The UniCard is issued to all staff and students. Your UniCard serves as your Library card, identifies you as a member of the University and allows you to borrow books from the library, access buildings, vote in Guild/ FXU elections, prove your identity in exams and much more. Council Tax exemption

Council Tax exemption is only granted to registered full-time students studying on a course that lasts for at least one full-academic year. You may be asked by your local council to provide a Council Tax Exemption Certificate – you obtain this from Student Information Desk in the Student Services Centre (email sid@exeter.ac.uk) for Exeter based students, or the Registry in Peter Lanyon Building (email: cc-registry@exeter.ac.uk) for Cornwall based students.

If you're a registered full-time student in private accommodation in Exeter, your name will automatically be included in a list that we send to the Exeter City Council Tax office, and you shouldn't need an Exemption Certificate. Similarly, if you are a registered full-time student in private accommodation in Cornwall in the former Kerrier and Carrick District Councils, your name will automatically be included in a list that we send to Cornwall Council, and you shouldn't need an exemption certificate.

If you are registered as a full-time postgraduate research student, you remain eligible for a council tax exemption until your first year of writing up has passed or you have submitted your first thesis for examination, whichever is earlier.
