The Department has welcomed two AHRC Fellows in the Creative and Performing Arts: leading international photographer Hugo Glendinning and Howard Barker, who has been described by The Times as 'Britain's most important living playwright'. Each Fellowship is enabled by a major AHRC award.
Dr Jerri Daboo has been awarded a major grant from the AHRC to undertake a two and a half year project researching the cultural history of Southall. The project is a collaboration between the Department of Drama at the University of Exeter, the Department of Dance Studies at Roehampton University and the founding members of 'The Southall Story' organisation.
Dr Jane Milling and Dr Kerrie Schaefer have won a number of grants through the AHRC Connected Communities special call for collaborative projects. These grants include: exploring the contribution of participatory arts to community well-being through analytical studies of flagship participatory community arts practices; understanding of how the qualitative analysis of the cultural representation of binge-drinking can contribute to quantitative alcohol policy modelling; and exploring the community role played by local-level grassroots arts activity and organisations.
