The field of special educational needs examines issues of disability, difference and deviance within a framework of inclusion and entitlement. Inclusion and its allied concepts of integration, segregation and exclusion are addressed within both educational and societal perspectives.
The programme offers you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in schools in the UK through a placement module. The programme is invaluable for a range of future professional roles such as specialist teaching, advisory work and special educational needs coordinators. You will develop a range of professional and personal transferable skills within the general context of education and care; potentially enhancing your opportunities for career progression or for progression to further doctoral level study.
The programme will develop your understanding of the theory and practice of special educational needs within both special and mainstream educational settings. With your student peers from around the world, you will benefit from the exchange of experiences from a variety of cultures and settings.
The flexibility of the programme also gives you the opportunity to select up to 60 credits of option modules from any of the MEd pathways, enabling you to study another aspect of education.
