Postgraduate student life

Postgraduate study requires dedication and commitment to succeed. That said, there will be times when you'll want a break from your studies and to socialise with other postgraduates or students with similar interests. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved at Exeter in order to make your time here rewarding and fulfilling, as well as academically successful.

Exeter campuses

At our campuses in Exeter, the Students’ Guild (it’s what we call our Students’ Union) is central to student life and is the best student union in the UK, having been awarded Students’ Union of the Year 2010 by the NUS. The Guild is a dynamic, innovative and award-winning organisation, existing to represent all the diverse students of the University of Exeter. The Guild is a member-led organisation, which means all our students have a say in the running of the Guild and in 2011, a new national record for turnout in a students’ union election was set. Through Guild representation, the broad range of services and exceptional activities, we are confident that you’ll have the best possible university experience at Exeter.

In addition to the sports clubs, the Guild supports 165 societies and postgraduates are actively involved in many of these. The dedicated society for postgraduates, The Postgraduate Society is affiliated with the National Postgraduate Committee. Run by a committee of students, the Society can help you make the most of your time at Exeter.

Cornwall Campus

At the Cornwall Campus, our Students’ Union is known as FXU and is run jointly between the University of Exeter and University College Falmouth, with whom we share the campus. There are two Student Presidents within FXU, who represent students from the University of Exeter and University College Falmouth. Both Student Presidents work alongside the Welfare President who forms the third member of the FXU presidential team. As with the Guild in Exeter, FXU will play a major role in your experience as a student. They organise events on and off campus, help students to set up and run clubs and societies, have a vibrant Community Action and RAG base and run a support and advice service.
