Our new MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management will give you both the theoretical understanding of the latest start-up and tech thinking, as well as the practical skills to navigate a complex future and lead accelerated business growth. The programme is designed to craft your business skills to enable you to manage uncertainty, develop robust initiatives, and lead accelerated business growth in your chosen venture.
You will learn from professionals and practitioners who have experience across the spectrum of entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as leading academics who will integrate the latest research and thinking into their teaching.
We will not only equip you with fundamental business skills, but also expose you to new ideas, ways of working, and the tools and frameworks that are essential to being an entrepreneur in the ‘age of acceleration’.
Incorporating practical activities, including hackathons, design sprints, and live business cases, you will develop your entrepreneurial skills and learn first-hand how to adapt and manage innovation.
Entrepreneur Business Startup (60 credits)
This module underpins the programme and consists of both a strong theoretical and applied approach. In other words, in a pragmatic way, this module provides you with the tools, skills, and the mental framework to successfully create and grow a new venture. It addresses the fundamental pillars of entrepreneurship to empower your wider understanding and will give you a robust understanding of entrepreneurs, the entrepreneurial process, and creating successful new ventures. Centring on theory and practice this module will enable you to create your own startup venture or a new venture within an existing business.
Whilst we understand that you need to turn up with motivation and a burning desire to get started, we also appreciate that entrepreneurship relies on a set of skills that can be continually improved. This module provides a theoretical framework that allows you to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses. Once we have identified what you need to work on we will support you accordingly, enabling you to become an effective entrepreneur and innovator.
Entrepreneurial Practice (30 credits)
This module runs throughout the year and has been designed to enhance your practical skills in developing successfully growth ventures through workshops and coaching sessions. It culminates in a project that will bring all the theoretical knowledge you have gained on the programme together with an applied project.
The module centres on the pragmatic application of your entrepreneurial knowledge and skills through a live project that entails the ‘virtual’ creation of either A) New venture project or B) Business growth project. This can be a new venture creation or you can work on new ventures within an existing business such as a family business. It gives you the opportunity to practice entrepreneurship in a very real way. The fluid nature of this module allows academic learning followed by individual application of new venture processes within one learning framework.
In developing your new venture, this module will take you from idea to launch. It is designed to move you through the phases of startup from validation, MVP (minimal viable product), to test and iterate towards market fit. We are interested in creating great businesses and we know they take time and dedication, we will therefore support you through this journey. We will ensure you have the know-how to lead, shape, maintain, and develop an entrepreneurial organisation to continue fast business growth well into the future.
You’ll have continual access to the prototyping/maker space facilities and an extensive ‘library of things’ to develop your idea. We are interested in creating great businesses and we know they take time and dedication and we will support you through this journey. We will ensure you have the know-how to lead, shape, maintain, and develop an entrepreneurial organisation to continue fast business growth well into the future.
Agile Innovation (30 Credits)
Managing innovation effectively is a prerequisite for future 21st century business success. Innovation as a core business process is fundamental and understanding how to find or create new ideas, select the most robust initiatives, and then implement them is a crucial capability for organisational growth. As businesses new and old are facing a landscape of rapid change, this module equips you with the understanding of how to deliver value in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) world.
A key aim is for you to understand the strategic as well as operational issues that affect the innovation process. This necessitates an understanding of the dimensions of responsible innovation and how these are implemented. The module will explore the challenges in establishing and sustaining such an approach to innovation and introduces a range of enabling tools, models and structures. Further, this module will engage the participant with the emergent technological innovations that are being described as the next industrial revolution. It is focused on increasing the participant’s ability to understand technical innovations and communicate them clearly within a diverse team, in order to increase the ability to create more value.
Business Law and Mitigating Risk (15 credits)
Master the ability to manage and mitigate business risk through acquiring the ability to identify and understand key policy and legal requirements. All sizes of organisations are increasingly working across international boundaries, with many SMEs becoming ‘micro- multinationals’. Businesses rely on the law to be recognised as a trading entity, for their interests to be protected, and to facilitate their increasing diverse relationships. Practically, this course will allow you to understand the requirements of setting up your own business and enable you to successfully navigate the legal space.
Funding, Accounting, and Finance (15 credits)
This course will introduce you to the key concepts of the subject and build confidence in how to navigate the funding, accounting, and finance space successfully. Business across the world have a multitude of options in how to raise capital to create further growth. You will learn how to identify and manage the best options of funding from government loans, crowdfunding, angel investment, to venture capital. By having a good working knowledge of how to manage money and make it work for you, it will give you the confidence to build, launch, and make your company financially sustainable.
Operations and Project Management (15 credits)
Being able to organise and drive efficiencies through your company’s processes and assets is vital to staying competitive. This module provides a fundamental underpinning for the design of sustainable business strategies by focusing on how to achieve the efficient and effective management of resources and operations. The module will provide you with the means to analyse operational activities and design solutions to overcome wasteful operational processes and issues. It will also equip the participant with the skills to manage projects to achieve these goals.
Organisation and Talent Management (15 credits)
Evolve your organisation by matching resources appropriately to meet your growth targets. Managing talent and the growth of your startup will be a vital aspect of scaling your enterprise. This module will introduce you to the processes and tools of human resource management to attract, retain, and foster talent within your startup long-term. It will prepare you to deal with the growing pains of scaling an organisation successfully, as well as how to identify the right systems and structures that are appropriate to your organisational type.
The modules we outline here provide examples of what you can expect to learn on this degree course based on recent academic teaching. Learning and teaching
The MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management is not your typical postgraduate programme. You will be exposed to a wide variety of innovative learning experiences, such as hackathons and design sprints, in conjunction with more traditional approaches such as lectures, group-work and tutorials.
You will ‘learn by doing’ with a small cohort of like-minded students, looking to disrupt traditional ways of working and affect change.
Every effort is made to offer a high standard of diverse learning experiences making each subject accessible. This will range from pre-online learning to one-to-one coaching.
Modules are assessed through a mixture of group work, coursework, project work and examinations; the weighting of each of these components will vary according to the academic requirements of the module.

English language requirements
At least 7.0 overall and no less than 6.0 in any other section.
At least 100 with minimum scores of 21 for writing, 21 for listening, 22 for reading and 23 for speaking.
Pearson Test of English (Academic)
65 with no less than 55 in all communicative skills.

Fees and funding
Tuition fees per year 2019/20
- UK/EU: £13,300 full-time
- International: £21,500 full-time
Fees can normally be paid by two termly instalments and may be paid online. You will also be required to pay a tuition fee deposit to secure your offer of a place, unless you qualify for exemption. For further information about paying fees see our Student Fees pages.
