Grand Challenge 2023

EIGC23

The Environmental Intelligence Grand Challenge 2023

The University of Exeter, 19-23 June 2023

A free 5-day interdisciplinary Environmental Intelligence challenge/hackathon, assembling teams to tackle today's environmental challenges in collaboration with impactful partner organisations.

Environmental Intelligence (EI) is the responsible use of data science and AI to solve environmental challenges, inform decision-making, and drive action on the climate and biodiversity crises. EIGC23 will be delivered in partnership with Friends of the EarthNational TrustPlymouth Marine Lab and Uplift . Our partners will set environment and sustainability challenges tied to their core missions. Interdisciplinary teams will then develop solutions over a five day process, following principles of design thinking to achieve effective outcomes. Outputs might be tools, apps, data insights, literature reviews, or policy recommendations. While the event is hosted by the UKRI AI CDT in Environmental Intelligence, with a focus on data/AI, there is room for many disciplinary backgrounds and approaches to problem-solving.

During this week-long event on the stunning University of Exeter Streatham campus, teams will work intensively on their solutions, but will also share social events, creativity and team spirit. We are seeking passionate people (students, researchers, professionals) with skills and interests in the environment, data science, and responsible innovation, to take part and collaborate with us and our partners. This is a free event organised by the UKRI CDT in Environmental Intelligence and will include lunch and refreshments each day, social events, and dedicated event and collaboration space.
