Creative Exchange ‘Melting Pot’ invites new collaborations
The University of Exeter’s Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) hosted the Creative Exchange Programme’s ‘Melting Pot’ on 19 April 2018. The event brought together local creative practitioners to discuss and develop new collaborations with University of Exeter research staff.
Artists and academics from a wide range of disciplines and perspectives participated in the event, and each delivered a short presentation outlining their respective creative inspirations and research. The event also included a presentation on the new University of Exeter Arts and Culture Strategy.
Through the Creative Exchange Programme the ESI aims to both help develop the region’s creative industries, inspiring research and developing new ways to view and understand human relationships with the environment.
The facilitated networking which followed enabled those with mutual interests to explore these and identify areas for collaboration. Following on from the event, creative practitioners are encouraged to develop proposals for joint projects. Creative practitioners who submit successful proposals to the programme become affiliates of the University, and have access to resources and facilities.
The ESI is working with businesses and enterprises across all sectors of the economy in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and beyond to translate research and expertise into innovative business practices, products and services in order to respond to the challenges of environmental change. It has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund Convergence Programme (£22.9M) and the South West Regional Development Agency (£6.6M), with significant support from the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

The Creative Exchange programme is open to all University of Exeter researchers and projects with an Environmental or Sustainability theme.
