Current funding round

Round three

The scope of this third round of funding has been widened to include support for:

  • Outstanding postdoctoral researchers - allowing them to generate preliminary data to support independent Fellowship applications.
  • Early career academics - enabling them to generate preliminary data in support of research grant applications.
  • Mid-career and senior academics seeking pump priming support for new activity that will lead to a Wellcome Trust application. First time applicants to the Trust are particularly encouraged.

Each award will be up to £20,000 (£30,000 for mid-career and senior academics) typically for up to 12 months. We anticipate making five to seven awards in 2013 across all disciplines.

The award can be used to:

  • Cover the direct incurred costs of the proposed project
  • Provide technical assistance or consumables.
  • Or as required to complete the proposed project.

The proposed work must be within the remit of the Wellcome Trust.

Criteria for assessment:

  • Applicant’s track record.
  • Proposed project.
  • Proposed outputs for this funding (eg what anticipated grant applications).

The closing date is 1 February 2013.
