The following frequently asked questions are designed to answer common queries about the Frontiers of Multidisciplinary Research: Mathematics, Engineering and Biology conference.

Where is the conference taking place?

The conference is taking place at the Streatham Campus, University of Exeter, UK.  View directions and maps.

The full address is: The University of Exeter, The Queen's Drive, Exeter, Devon EX4 4QJ.

The conference venue is Reed Hall.

Transport

Getting to Exeter

Direct flights operate into Exeter from Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam, Geneva and airports in the United Kingdom including Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Jersey, Leeds/Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and St Marys.

Other international flights operate into Bristol airport.  There is a regular train service from Bristol Temple Meads to Exeter St David's which takes approximately 1 hour.

In Exeter

The conference venue, Reed Hall, is a 15 minute walk from the city centre or 20 minutes walk from Exeter St David's station.  See the Streatham campus map for location and footpaths

The 'D' bus operates to and from campus every 30 minutes from the city centre.  A timetable will be available in your delegate pack.

On the Tuesday morning, a shuttle bus will operate from 11.30am to and from Exeter St David's station to the conference venue until 2pm.  More details will be available when the train timetable for September is released.  On the Friday afternoon, there will be a bus available after the conference closes to take delegates to Exeter St David's station.  See the city centre map for more information.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning there will be a coach that will pick up delegates from a designated point along Queen Street at 8.30am to arrive at Reed Hall by 8.45am.  An evening coach will leave Reed Hall at the end of the day and drop off at the designated point along Queen Street.

There is free car parking available near Reed Hall on all conference days.  The main train station is a 20 minute walk or a short taxi ride away from the conference venue.

What accommodation is available?

The conference is non-residential, but we would like to assist delegates to find the most suitable accommodation possible.

We have negotiated special rates for a selection of city centre hotels which will be listed on our website from mid-July, and delegates will be able to access this through the payments webpage.  You are able to book these rooms through the online form or if you require assistance, contact us by email and we can do this for you.  We will not take payment for accommodation, but you will be responsible for settling your bill directly with the hotel after your stay.   Any cancellations prior to your stay should be made directly with the hotel.

Where to eat?

Refreshments will be provided to all conference delegates during the day.  This includes morning and afternoon tea and coffee breaks, a 2 course lunch, and evening drinks and nibbles.

On the Thursday evening there will be a Gala Dinner (venue to be confirmed) which is included in the delegate fee.

We will be contacting each delegate shortly to ask for any special dietary requirements.

There are no evening catering facilities on campus, however there are several restaurants and pubs nearby catering for all tastes.  Further information will be available in your delegate pack.

What IT facilities will be available during the conference?

There will be wifi access throughout the conference venue and you will be provided with username and password in your delegate pack

Speakers will be invited to send their presentation ahead of the conference to ensure compatibility with the IT facilities.

I have a query about payment

If you have been accepted to attend the conference, you will shortly be sent a link to our payment page, which can also be accessed by clicking the 'Payment and accommodation' tab in the left hand menu.

We will be accepting payment in the form of credit card, cheque or bank transfer.

Please note that the University is not liable for any travel or accommodation costs incurred.  Please do not book travel or accomodation until your attendence has been confirmed.

I have been invited to present a talk or poster at the conference

Presentations will be 25 minutes long with a 5 minute Q&A session. You will be asked to send a copy of your presentation electronically 1 week before the conference.

Posters must be no larger than A0 and must be portrait (1189mm high x 841 mm wide or 46.8 in high x 33.1 in wide).  Any posters that exceed this size may be refused due to limited posterboard space.  Posters will be on display for the entire conference and discussion and poster sessions will be included in the program.
