Minimising the impact of man-made noise on marine life

Published on: 24 January 2016

Dr Steve Simpson from the University of Exeter is an expert on how man-made noise affects marine life, his research has informed policy and he recently contributed to the BBC series Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough.

Under water noise such as boat engines, pile driving to build wind farms, and the use of air-guns in searching for offshore oil and gas can have an adverse effect on the animals living below the surface.

Luckily those making the underwater noise are open to talking to researchers such as Steve to find out what they can do to lessen their impact on the marine environment.
