As a PhD student working with graphene and cellulose based nanomaterials I feel that I am working at the forefront of materials science. The University of Exeter has a wide variety of state-of-the-art equipment along with postdoctoral researchers and academics with years of expertise and experience.

The device manufacturing element of my project is particularly useful for industrial applications and will prove crucial in applying for jobs after my PhD.

Our doctoral training programme

The doctoral training at the Centre for Metamaterial Research and Innovation supports all our Postgraduate Rsearchers (PGRs) on the programme in developing their scientific knowledge whilst also providing transferrable and technical skills training to prepare them for careers within and outside of academia.

The PGRs gain scientific background knowledge beyond their areas of expertise and transferable professional skills such as project management, entrepreneurship and professional presentation skills in a cohort-based collaborative environment as part of a forward-thinking, community of academic, industrial and governmental partners harnessing research excellence.
