Publisher discount schemes

Discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs) are available for some publishers. The following discounts are available to University of Exeter researchers through institutional membership or offset agreements.

American Chemical Society

What is available: Discounted APC for subscribing institutions, according to ACS pricing

Open to: All University of Exeter researchers.

BioMed Central

What is available: 15 per cent discounted APC via institutional Supporter Membership

Open to: All University of Exeter researchers.

What is available: University of Exeter Medical School (UEMS) prepay deposit account

Open to: UEMS researchers.

Royal Society

What is available: 25 per cent discounted APC

Sage

What is available: £200 APC

Previously published articles can be made retrospectively open access for an APC of £400.

Springer What is available: No charge to the author for open access publication in eligible Hybrid journals

Open to: All University of Exeter researchers.

Limitations: Publishing an original paper, review, brief communication or continuing education in an eligible journal.

Springer Open What is available: 15 per cent discounted APC via institutional Supporter Membership

Open to: All University of Exeter researchers.

Taylor and Francis

What is available: £450 APC (75 per cent discount)

Open to: All University of Exeter researchers.

Limitations: Certain ‘open select’ Taylor and Francis journals.

Wiley

What is available: 25 per cent discounted APC

Open to: Research Councils UK (RCUK) funded University of Exeter researchers.

Limitations: Can only be used in conjunction with the RCUK funded institutional deposit account.

RCUK or COAF funded researchers must complete an RCUK / COAF funding request to apply to have open access costs paid from the institutional RCUK or COAF open access grant.

These APC discounts are offered as institutional membership schemes or where library subscriptions to the publisher’s journals are currently in place. Such offset agreements are nationally negotiated as part of the subscription deal and are intended to contain the total cost of publication by helping ensure that institutions do not pay publishers twice for the same item.
