Dr Dan Bloomfield

Research Development Manager - Weather, Climate and Health

Role

Dan’s post is a joint one with the Met Office. He is responsible for coordinating and developing a programme of research between the two organisations that focuses upon the relationship between health and wellbeing on the one hand, and weather and climate on the other.

Profile

Before joining the University in 2010, Dan ran a Europe-wide charity that provided networking opportunities for National Parks and other protected areas.

He has backgrounds in:

  • Environmental projects and policy (for Natural England and the Greater London Authority),
  • public engagement and facilitation (for BMRB and other companies), and,
  • economic development consultancy  (for Roger Tym and Partners and Government Office South West).

He has a PhD in linguistics and urban policy from University College London, a degree in ecology, and a Masters degree in environmental policy.

Additionally he is a psychotherapist, and is completing an MA in Buddhist psychotherapy; he has a particular interest in mental health issues. He is also chairman of his young son’s preschool committee.

He has no free time, but if he did, he’d surf at his home in Liskeard a great deal more than he does.
