Role
Jean is Head of Strategic Economic Development for Cornwall, where she is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with our strategic partners in Cornwall. This role recognises the importance of the University’s contribution to the economic regeneration of Cornwall through engagement with private and public sector organisations.
She is also a Director of UEC Enterprises Ltd, the University’s commercial arm, which delivers CoVentures, a high level business mentoring service to businesses in Cornwall.
Profile
Jean has a degree in Geology and has been with the University since 1994, starting out in the Camborne School of Mines, particularly promoting continuing professional development to local businesses.
She developed and managed the £1million EnviroSkills project, which, with regional partners, promoted higher skills training to businesses in the environmental goods and services sector in the south west.
She has also worked on the development of collaborative projects with Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) partners and is responsible for the business engagement strategy for the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI).
Prior to this, Jean spent 12 years working in the mining industry in South Africa, initially in exploration geology, and then in industrial geology where she was Research and Development Manager for one division of a corporate organisation based near Johannesburg.
