Role
Sean is responsible for the University’s support for:
- Research collaborations,
- contract research, and,
- EU research.
He is also responsible for knowledge transfer between the University and industry, including:
- Consultancy,
- research commercialisation,
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships,
- research studentships,
- economic development activity, and,
- the University’s commercial companies.
He leads the Research and Knowledge Transfer team which annually handles projects worth over £200million.
Sean ensures that strategic research initiatives like the Science and Humanities and Social Science strategies and preparations for the Research Excellence Framework are effective and well managed.
He drives forward strategic knowledge transfer initiatives such as the Innovation Centres and the University of Exeter Science Park. He also ensures that Exeter’s research strengths are well communicated and helps build strategic relationships with organisations across the World.
Profile
Sean has been at the University for 15 years, having previously worked for the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (the forerunner to Universities UK). He has also set up and led companies delivering a range of joint venture national and international projects. He has been Managing Director of two companies and a director on many more. He studied languages at UCL.
