RKT manages a wide range of large, high value projects which significantly contributes to the University portfolio.

Current projects

As of December 2010 RKT were working on 756 live projects with a total value of £170.5m. Most of these have a real impact on the economy, policy, and culture.

The projects fall into 9 different types:

  • Research projects (RKT / RAS or RAS only)
  • Contract Research
  • Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)
  • Consultancy
  • EU
  • IP and Commercialisation
  • Events
  • External Funding
  • Research Studentships

Every project has an RKT lead and a Research Accounting (RAS)  lead who will be the main contact for each project; the RAS lead will change between pre- and post-award, and the RKT lead will remain the same throughout the project.

As well as these School-led projects, RKT also manages a portfolio of institutionally significant projects, the value of which is currently worth over £50 million to the University.  Each is assessed against a number of criteria by Senior Management, and if they meet one or more of these criteria, become known as 'Priority Projects'.
