Internal University Funding Sources and Support

Open Innovation Platform

The Open Innovation platform provides financial support to academics in order to enable engagement with business and industrial partners. It is intended to support development of collaborative relationships with this sector leading to a long term, sustainable growth in research income from these sources for the University.

Find out more information and how to apply for the Open Innovation Platform.

Knowledge Escalator

The Knowledge Escalator programme is a HERDA-SW business engagement initiative financed through SWRDA and EDRF funding. Activities supported under the programme fall into the broad categories of enterprise support (mentor scheme, staff enterprise champion, knowledge fellowships, non-executive directors programme) and innovation support (proof of concept, business plan competitions). For more information, see the Knowledge Escalator page.

School specific funding information and support

Some Schools have their own support services, databases and individual contacts for Research staff. You should also contact your School Research & Knowledge Transfer Manager for general support and advice who will be able to answer your query or direct you to the correct person within your School.

This link will take you to further information and key contacts within your School.

Support for the development of bids flagged as an Institutional priority

All new projects are reviewed by Research & Knowledge Transfer using the Project Decision Tool. This assesses each project against a number of criteria, and depending on the outcome of this a project may be flagged as an institutional priority.   These projects become known as 'Priority Projects'. Find out more information by visiting our Current projects page.

Internal funding for PGRs

The University has recently invested heavily in postgraduate research and the online Scholarship and Bursaries Database allows searches of our funding awards to be carried out. For the last two years we have run a centralised studentship advertising campaign to publicise both internal and external funding opportunities. The high-profile and wide-reaching campaigns have allowed us to generate huge interest in research study from high quality prospective students and have helped us to build recognition of our commitment to postgraduate research.
