Consultancy
Offering consultancy expertise to partners can be a great way of building relationships which can lead to research contracts and demonstrable Impact. Consultancy is the provision by University staff of expert advice or services to external clients undertaken through a contract for payment. Consultancy does not normally create new knowledge; it allows organisations, businesses and individuals to benefit from the University’s existing expertise, skills and tools.
We also focus on Client Relationship Development in order to develop leads, nurture and retain clients, attract new clients, add value and conduct evaluations.
As a member of academic staff at Exeter you can undertake consultancy as part of your normal work (institutional consultancy) or separately and not related to your normal work (independent consultancy). There are different legal, fiscal and personal liability considerations for each type of consultancy. Depending on College approval, consultancy income can be used to augment personal development accounts or can be taken as additional salary.
Exeter Enterprises Ltd and UEC Enterprises Ltd provide specialist services to ensure that your consultancy experience is productive and trouble free.
To discuss your consultancy project further please get in touch or see our Consultancy FAQs. Take a look at the consultancy procedures for an overview of the system.
If you are an academic at University of Exeter, please take the time to register your area of expertise so that you can be included within our capabilities list which will be used for matching potential clients with researchers. Email Isabel Gonzalez to register your area of expertise.
| Exeter Enterprises & UECE offer support to academics undertaking consultancy through a separate limited company. This provides a range of support services including costings and pricing, negotiating, administration, professional indemnity insurance, invoicing, project management, legal support. A small percentage of the consultancy income is charged for this service. Both companies covenant profits back into University of Exeter, the parent institution. |
