Senior Research and Impact Analyst

Role

Shane analyses, manages, monitors and reports on a range of research and innovation, impact and business (IIB) performance data, including:

  • Research applications, awards and income
  • Postgraduate researcher completions
  • Bibliometrics
  • Consultancy and knowledge exchange activity

Example uses of this data include:

  • Providing management with information on progress against targets and performance benchmarked against competitors.
  • Supporting Colleges in planning future research and IIB income and activity.
  • Enhancing bids for funding with key statistics.
  • Ensuring the University is prepared for future research assessment exercises.

Shane spends two days a week with the Policy, Planning and Business Intelligence directorate, for whom he leads the analysis of Exeter’s performance in global university league tables. He is also the University’s lead contact for supporting the use of Scival , the University’s bibliometrics tool. He sits in the Research Performance, Impact and Integrity team.

Profile

Shane initially moved into his current role in March 2015 on a part-time interim basis, before being appointed full-time and permanently in December 2015. From August 2013 until his move, he worked as a Project Assistant in the same team, supporting communications and systems development and maintenance in the department.

Prior to that Shane worked as a Graduate Business Partner within the departments, supporting the redevelopment of key customer-facing websites. Before he joined the University, Shane worked for City College Plymouth and EDF Energy.

Shane studied Mathematics and Physics as a student, graduating in 2011.
