Innovation Centre, University of Exeter, Rennes Drive, Exeter, EX4 4RN, UK
As Deputy Director of the Research Services Directorate I lead on Research Strategy, Policy and Planning. As part of this I work with the DVC, members of the Research and Impact Executive Group (RIEG) and Director of Research to shape and develop Exeter’s research and impact strategy. I also have oversight of Research Planning, Exeter’s preparations for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and act as Professional Service sponsor for the development and governance of Exeter’s University Institutes.
I joined the University in June 2017 having previously held several senior roles within Research Councils UK (now UKRI) most recently as Associate Director at the Arts and Humanities Research Council. At the AHRC, I was responsible for strategic leadership in the areas of doctoral training, collaborative research and innovation and business engagement. Whilst there I acted as Senior Responsible Officer for the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund supported Creative Clusters Programme. Prior to the AHRC, I was at the Economic and Social Research Council where I held a range of senior positions including leading on strategic and delivery plans; the development of ESRC’s first Doctoral Training Centres programme and the Transformative Research Scheme. At both ESRC and then AHRC I played a key role in several cross-council initiatives including the Global Challenges Research Fund and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.
Before joining the Research Councils I held research posts at the universities of Reading and Bath as well as a visiting research post at Ohio State.
