Qualifications
Stephen did a BSc in Mathematics at Plymouth University with an ERASMUS year at the University of Nantes, France, before doing an MSc and PhD at the Department of Mathematics in the University of Bath. His PhD was on adaptive moving mesh methods, specifically with applications in weather forecasting.
Career
After his studies, Stephen was then a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) associate, working with the University of Bath and Seiche Ltd, an underwater acoustics services and manufacturing company based on Devon. Following the KTP, Stephen continued working with Seiche Ltd as an Acoustic Engineer, predicting and analysing the effects of anthropogenic sounds on marine life (such as the sound of impact pile driving for constructing offshore wind farms).
Stephen joined the University of Exeter in August 2022 as a Research Software Engineer, and is keen to do more work bringing workflows and modern software best practices to research problems.
