Dame Sally will be speaking on “Shaping the Future: ‘The Challenges of Public Health in the 21st Century
The Public Health challenges of the future are a mixture of already well known problems, such as high rates of smoking, obesity and lack of physical exercise, and emerging, as yet unknown problems. With an ageing population, ensuring we all age well has never been more important. Differences in life expectancy between the richest and the poorest remain a key inequality that must be addressed.
Dame Sally Davies, will discuss the wider social determinants of health and wellbeing, covering issues such as changing social, behavioural, economic and technological influences and their impact. Using case studies such as alcohol, she will illustrate how our growing understanding of these determinants must be translated into action to successfully address future health challenges.
