Cornwall Campus Student Recruitment and Outreach Team

This small team works tirelessly to increase awareness amongst local school children about the benefits of HE on their doorstep, they do this through a very busy programme of Career's fairs, talks in schools, tutoring programmes and e-mentoring, to name just a few activities. They recently organised the Excellence awards, which was a high profile event held at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth, to recognise local school children for a range of achievements.

Here is what a current student who benefited from the support offered by the team had to say:

“I am a local student, who studied GCSEs and A-Levels at Falmouth School, where this team delivered some workshops. They have done so much for me, and without their support and advice I doubt I would have progressed to University. I am the first in my family to ever go to University, and while my parents were supportive, their help was limited. The outreach team at the campus, however, were extremely helpful on all their visits to the school. They assured me that living at home would not be a hindrance, helped me and my entire class with what we needed to know for University - even things I now take for granted but at the time didn’t know, such as the fact we didn’t have to find the tuition fees upfront. Once joining the University, I wanted to be a part of what had helped me so much and became a student ambassador. I have since been promoted to Senior Ambassador and now see how much hard work, time and dedication goes into what they do in schools. They are totally dedicated to their work, and to the cause and genuinely want to improve the aspirations of local students like myself, and are clearly successful. My younger sister (age 15) is already talking about wanting to be a doctor and study medicine, and a very close family friend is due to start at University of Exeter, Cornwall Campus next year.”
