Education and Student Experience and HR Services

The Student Records team have been nominated for their dedication, work ethic and the excellent work that they do every single day. The team manages a multitude of core student processes such as interruptions, changes of programmes and withdrawals, of which they’ve processed well over 2,000 since the start of 2016/7. Among some of the numerous tasks that they handle are the supplying of data to the Student Loans Company to enable students to receive their payments, and coordinating Online Module Selection as well as Online Registration. The Student Records team also has a critical responsibility in the annual Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) student return. It is a complex process that is done extremely well considering the amount of resource dedicated to it. The members of the team are committed to the experience of their customers, both colleagues and students alike, and are constantly striving to improve processes.

HUMS

The Humanities Graduate School have been nominated because they work tirelessly to support HUMS PGRs, ensure their wellbeing and contribute to their professional development. They ensure that they have the best experience from day 1 of their PhDs, and their open door policy is extremely helpful. The team all go above and beyond to support any new student project which contribute significantly to employability and professional development. The team makes the difference between an average PhD experience and a fantastic one.

Paula Frost

Finance Services

Paula has been nominated for her work on the The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Metamaterials which is a £12.5m 8yr PGR training grant that started in 2014. Paula painstakingly went through the transactions of the grant, identifying where mistakes had been made, and pieced together the puzzle of this hugely complex grant's finances, liaising with various other finance administration parts of the institution to ensure everything was joined up. This was done in addition to her existing challenging workload and in tandem with working through similar issues in a number of other, smaller CDTs. The CDT staff and Directors were aware of the extremely long hours that were required to meet often conflicting or concurrent deadlines and were most appreciative of the fact that Paula was unfailingly cheerful, professional, available and reliable.
