Rewarding performance

This site details the arrangements to be applied by the University for rewarding staff for performance within their current grade. These arrangements support the University's HR Strategy aims to encourage and recognise relevant excellence, in all of its many forms, through its reward systems; to align individual roles with the University’s institutional aims and objectives; and to develop a ‘high performance – high reward’ culture.

The University rewards performance through the following arrangements:

This site also contains guidance for Colleges/Services on the criteria for and examples of exceptional performance.

Additionally there is a table that clarifies the relationship between contribution points and Merit Awards and the University Bonus.

Eligibility

All employees of the University are eligible for consideration for the University Bonus, Merit Awards and Contribution Points, except individuals engaged solely on a fees or claims basis (including the Temporary Staff Bank), subject to the qualifications set out in the Merit Awards site. Additionally, the arrangements for progression through grade F for Lecturers on the Professional Development Programme apply instead of the arrangements for Contribution Points.

Merit Awards and the University Bonus are not contractual benefits and the University reserves the right to withdraw or modify these schemes.

The remuneration arrangements for Professors, non-Professorial College Deans and Heads of Professional Services are managed through the Remuneration Committee and therefore the procedures in this site do not apply.
