Right to request training

Employees who have worked continuously (including part-time) at the University for 26 weeks have a right to request make requests to undertake any training which they believe will improve their effectiveness in the business, and the performance of the business. Eligibility for training

Our courses are available to ALL full-time and part-time employees of the University, and, by special arrangement, staff employed by the Guild of Students. You will need to discuss and agree with your manager that the training is right for you before booking onto the course.

Staff who work in INTO and the Innovation Centre may also attend courses where there is space, although we usually charge a commercial-rate fee for attendance. Casual staff are not eligible to attend.

Cancellation policy

If you register to attend a course and cannot attend, you will be required to provide a reason. If you fail to attend without cancellation, although you will not be charged, we will keep a record and will investigate the reasons when delegates persistently fail to attend.

Creating your own training course

If you wish to design and deliver your own course and would like advice or assistance, please contact us in the first instance.

Financial support for external training

We are committed to ensure that you have the opportunity to develop yourself by acquiring the skills and knowledge for your job role. In particular, if you need to undertake training which is directly relevant to your work (excluding conferences) or to complete an accredited programme of study which leads to a qualification. There is guidance about the level of support you can expect.
