About this course:

This is a shortened version of the half-day introductory face-to-face course which is currently on hold, and will be delivered remotely.

It has been designed to increase mental health awareness in the workplace and particularly during remote working, to help staff feel more confident in supporting colleagues and contribute to a positive work environment.

Learning outcomes:

As a result of attending the course, you will be able to:.

- Recognise signs and symptoms of common mental health problems such as stress, anxiety and depression, and understand the potential impact of health on work and work on health.

- Consider where you are on the mental wellbeing continuum.

- Demonstrate the empathic and non-judgemental approach required when supporting individuals with their mental wellbeing.

- Consider how the NHS Five Ways to Mental Wellbeing model can be applied to your work and home life.

- Access relevant resources and other sources of support, and be able to provide appropriate signposting to colleagues.

Who should attend this course:

The course is open to any member of staff who would like to develop an understanding of mental health problems in the workplace and feel more confident in providing basic support to colleagues.

Please note that, whilst aspects of the course can be applied to work with students, it does not provide specific guidance on this.

There is a 2-day course on Mental Health First Aid, facilitated by members of the Student Wellbeing service.
