About this programme:

This programme is designed to help team-leaders and supervisors identify the key differences between working within a team, and assisting in the supervision of a team, and to provide them with practical tools to support them.

Delegates will attend participative workshops that use facilitated discussion, presentations, case studies and group work. The workshops promote reflective review, and encourage delegates to find opportunities to apply the learning in the workplace.

Learning outcomes: As a result of attending this programme, you will be able to:

  4. Learn coaching skills to use with your team
  5. Gain a nationally recognised qualification

The programme consists of 4 modules:

  1. Developing Yourself as a Team Leader
      This workshop is designed to give you a firm foundation in the skills and understanding needed to supervise and lead a team. The workshop explores your role as a team leader and how you can identify and develop the skills necessary to be most effective.
  2. Improving Performance of the Work Team
      This workshop focuses on team goals and techniques for helping you and your team to be clear about their goals and to meet them most effectively.
  3. Planning and Monitoring Work
      Aims to develop knowledge and skills in translating organisational and team objectives in to planned activities. In doing so, a range of planning techniques will be considered as well as how to respond when plans go "off track". Personal time management and delegation will also be explored.
  4. Introduction to Coaching in the Workplace
      Equips you with the fundamental knowledge and skills to start using coaching within the workplace. It allows you to practice your new skills in a safe environment.

Who should attend this programme:
  • This programme is open to all staff groups.
  • Delegates may be new in role or more experienced and wishing to gain formal management qualifications and/or develop/re-assess skills and knowledge.
  • Delegates will typically be working at Grades C-D.
  • This programme has been specially designed for practising supervisors/managers. As the course is assessed through work-based assignments, you must already be in a management/ supervisory post with responsibility for managing/leading other staff rather than aspiring to this role.
  • This course is designed to help you boost your performance as a team leader and help you make the transition from working in a team to leading a team. As a practising team leader, it will help you be more effective and confident in your role.
Cost and Time Commitment:

Cost: Approx. £150 to cover ILM registration fees. People Development pay for the trainer costs

This is a comprehensive programme leading to a qualification, delegates should be aware that they are required to attend all sessions and complete all the assessments.  As a guide this will involve:

  • A programme induction and assignment writing masterclass
  • Three 6 hour workshops and one 3 hour workshop
  • 3 assignments, each requiring approximately 5-7 hours to read, research, prepare and write/present
  • Reflective/Action Planning Workshop
Assessment: Delegates complete work-based learning assignments, which are assessed and verified by the ILM in order to achieve their accreditation.
