The University of Exeter Management Standards

Information for staff who manage others

As a manager at the University of Exeter we expect you to manage your own development as well as to support the development of members of your team.

Development for you

For new managers

If you are a new manager or an experienced manager new to the University, we offer an interactive two hour workshop, Introduction to Managing Staff at the University of Exeter, highlighting key University policies and procedures. The workshop uses case studies to explore what support is available for managers at the University to help them deal with different situations.

As a new manager you will also need to complete our mandatory courses for all staff and for managers.

Leadership and management development framework

Our leadership and management development framework is a range of development opportunities, structured around the nationally recognised Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) qualifications framework.  The ILM use the UK-wide Qualifications and Credit Framework to assign levels to learning and development opportunities.  We have mapped these levels onto our own job grades to allow you to see what is most appropriate for your job now, or what is needed to help you progress.

We run an ILM centre through which you can undertake the ILM qualification associated with our courses.
