LearnUpon (online courses): Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

From the internal LearnUpon login page log in using your Single Sign On (SSO) username and password.

If you do not have a SSO, or are not a permanent member of staff at the University, you will not be able to access the training (this includes Temporary Staff Bank personnel).

If you are still unable to login, please contact SID to reset your login details.

The records from LearnUpon are uploaded onto Trent at the end of each month; for example, if you completed training anytime between the 1 – 31 of July it will not appear on your Trent record until around the 5th of August.  It will however show as ‘Complete’ on your LearnUpon account.

Please email the People Development Team. We might not be able to action your request immediately but we will update the records as soon as possible and always before the end of the month prior to the Trent upload.

Please note that your email will be kept as evidence that you have declared to have completed the training.

Google Chrome is our recommended browser to use for the online courses. You can also use:

  • Firefox version 4 or later
  • Safari version 5 or later
  • Client-side JavaScript enabled; Flash Player version 7 or later installed

I am trying to access the training in Chrome but I get a blank or grey screen.

It is most likely that Flash Player has dropped off of your ‘allowed’ options.  The easiest solution is to try opening LearnUpon in another Browser, however if that doesn’t work or you only have Chrome try the following;

Copy the following into the search bar: chrome://settings/content/flash.  Where it says ‘Allow’ on the left and ‘Add’ on the right, click ‘Add’.  Paste and save the following link;

https://exeter.learnupon.com

You will need to ensure that you have Flash Player downloaded and enabled in order for the programme to run.

Open your browser in the toolbar, go to Preferences, Websites, click on the flash plug-in and then enable/allow the browser to use Flashplayer. The browser in Mac will not automatically apply Flash to sites unless you tell it to, this is for security purposes.

To access the catalogue of courses and self-enrol click on the ‘Dashboard’ tab in the top left corner of your LearnUpon home page. Scroll through the courses until you find the course you want, click on the green ‘enrol’ button on the right hand side. The course will now appear on your dashboard.

Firstly try opening the course in a different browser.

Secondly ensure that you have the latest version of Flash Player, if you do not you will just see a grey or blank screen.  In order to do this complete the following;

1. Click on the following link: https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/update/plugin/

2. Read the terms and conditions and then click install

3. A message will appear at the bottom of the screen, wait for it to finish Initializing then click open

4. Click Yes

5. Click Finish and then Restart your computer

This e-course requires Adobe Flash Player (v.7 or later). It will not work on iPads or other mobile devices that do not support Flash.

Any personal earphones or headphones that are used in personal audio devices are likely to work by connecting to your headphone connection on your computer

Open the course in a different browser. Close down all other applications and windows.
