Postgraduate Applicant Portal
This project is to provide an applicant portal for postgraduates so they can make an online application to study at the University and then track the progress of their application whilst also being provided with specific relevant information such as news and events. A successful applicant will then be able to make payments and apply for accommodation within the portal.
This project has progressed from the approved project proposal which was developed involving key stakeholders so as to ensure an agreed approach.

The first task identified in the project proposal was to consult with the appropriate technical groups to develop a design that covered both functionality and technical architecture.
The recommended approach is to deliver the applicant portal based on the existing Oracle portal technology used for the staff and student portals.
The solution will allow for all the key deliverables identified in the project proposal to be met except for one item. For successful applicants their user-id and passwords would need to change once they were issued with a University user-id and password as managed within the University Identity Management System (IDMS) once they registered for their programme.
The key functional deliverables of the PG applicant portal are:
- To make an online application to include the upload of documents and track the application progress
- To be able to book accommodation online
- Access to system generated emails sent out from SITS
- To be able to apply for a bursary or scholarship
The design of the proposed postgraduate applicant portal was completed in March. The project board then approved the project to move forward to Phase 2 running from April through to June 2009, with the system then ready for user testing.
