Courses and Training
There are a number of courses available for Academic Leads. You can visit the Learning and Development site for more information on what courses are available and to book on a course.
Induction
Starting a new job can be very disorientating, particularly for international staff. The Academic Lead has an important role to play in helping the new member of staff adjust, navigate University systems and processes and help prioritise activities.
In the first few weeks attention should be drawn to the University's on-line induction material.
Professional Development Programme
Lecturers at the University are appointed to a Professional Development Programme (PDP) of up to five years and their appointment and progression to Senior Lecturer status will be confirmed upon successful completion of this programme.
See the guidance for Staff on the PDP for more information about how you can support colleagues through this process.
The PDP Framework contains detailed information about PDP, as well as the targets for each stream:
The Doctoral Supervision half-day workshop is mandatory for all those who are new to supervising research students. See also the Supervisor Handbook.
Performance and Development Review (PDR)
The Performance and Development Review is a regular review of performance and development. It is also the forum to agree and assess personal goals related to research and education.
For information about the PDR process, visit the Learning and Development PDR academic pages.
