Annual leave for staff
Job families: Education and Research; and Education and Scholarship
Staff in the Education and Research and the Education and Scholarship job families are entitled to the same paid leave as other staff graded E and above, namely 30 days plus 8 bank/public holidays and 3 closure days designated by the University. Staff in the Education and Research and the Education and Scholarship job families will normally take their leave during University vacations. Leave will not normally be permitted during term-time.
Leave of absence
Exceptionally, College Deans may grant leave of absence in term-time to members of staff for periods of up to two weeks. Requests for leave of absence for more than two weeks in term-time must be approved by the line manager Deputy Vice Chancellor through the procedure for approval of leave of absence (requests from College Deans for leave of absence in term time may be approved by the line manager Deputy Vice Chancellor.) The purpose of leave of absence in term-time is to enable staff to pursue activities which are relevant to their work at the University and therefore such leave will not be counted against the annual leave entitlement.
Colleges are responsible for making arrangements for the request, approval and recording of leave by staff in the Education and Research and the Education and Scholarship job families. These arrangements should be notified to staff in the College. Every effort will be made to allow three weeks’ continuous leave during vacations where the member of staff requests this.
Colleges are also responsible for notifying staff of their requirements regarding attendance at the University during vacations. Where staff are not required to attend the University, they should leave contact details with their College so that the University can contact them (except during booked periods of annual leave).
