Additional paternity/maternity support leave

Additional Statutory Paternity/Maternity Support Leave only applies in relation to babies due to be born on or after 3 April 2011 or in respect of children matched for adoption on or after that date.

Eligibility

To qualify for additional paternity leave and pay (after birth) you must meet all of the following:

  • have been employed continuously by the University for a period of 26 weeks or more ending with the 15th week before your partner’s expected week of childbirth;
  • have, or expect to have, responsibility for the child’s upbringing;
  • be the biological father of the child or the mother’s husband or partner;
  • intend to care for the child during the Additional Paternity/Maternity Support pay and leave period.

To qualify for additional paternity leave and pay (after adoption) you must meet all of the following:

  • have been employed continuously by the University for a period of 26 weeks or more by the end of the week in which you are formally informed by the adoption agency that you have been matched with a child;
  • have, or expect to have, responsibility for the child’s upbringing;
  • be the joint adopter of the child or be the adopter’s husband or partner;
  • intend to care for the child during the Additional Paternity/Maternity Support pay and leave period.
