Mortgage, landlord, Council tax and insurance issues
Before commencing homeworking, employees should advise landlords or mortgage providers and their buildings and contents insurers that they intend to work at home. This does not usually result in a change in costs, however, the University will not be responsible for any additional costs as a result.
University insurance policy coverage
Homeworkers are covered by the University’s insurance policy for employer’s liability and personal accident in the same way as office-based employees.
Council tax
Working from home should not affect payment of Council Tax. For further information visit the Valuation Office Agency website and see the Working from Home fact sheet.
