Staff Liaison Committee terms of reference
The Staff Liaison Committee has been established by the University, in accordance with the Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004, to provide a forum:
- for effective communication between the University and its employees:
- which enables employee representatives to bring to the attention of Senior Management issues that are of general concern to staff within the University:
- for discussing issues of strategic significance and mutual interest.
Membership
The University will be represented by the:
- Vice-Chancellor (who will chair the Committee)
- Registrar & Secretary
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Resources)
- Director of Human Resources
- Finance Director
- a College Dean
together with other Heads of Professional Services as may, from time-to time, be relevant.
Employees will be represented by three nominees from each of the Unions with which the University has a sphere of influence agreement, currently:
- University and College Union
- Unison
- Unite
To ensure representation from the Streatham, St Luke’s and Cornwall Campuses, the nine trade union representatives should include staff based at each of the University’s three campuses.
The Director of Human Resources will act as Secretary to the Committee.
Frequency and Format of Meetings
The Staff Liaison Committee will meet once each term to receive a presentation from the Vice-Chancellor and/or other Senior Officers.
Employee representatives will have the opportunity to ask questions and respond to the content of the presentation.
Employee representatives may also raise topics for discussion by giving notice to the Secretary of the Committee one week prior to the meeting.
A full minute of the meeting will be taken and placed on the University's web site and the main areas of discussion will be reported to the next meeting of Council.
Agreement
The University and the trade unions listed above, representing the workforce of the University, have accepted the composition and terms of reference of the Staff Liaison Committee as a pre-existing agreement in accordance with the Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004.
