Recent events
Both CEMPS and CLES have recently held launch events at Streatham and the Cornwall Campus (Tremough). The aim of these launch events was to raise awareness of Athena SWAN across the Colleges and to gain feedback and suggestions from staff and students.
CLES and CEMPS held a joint launch event in Tremough, which involved a talk from Professor Mark Goodwin (dean of CLES), Professor Mark Overton (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), a video message from Sarah Dickinson from the Equality Challenge Unit, and a visit from Professor Dame Sally Davis, the Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health.
CLES held a launch event on the Streatham Campus which included a talk from Professor Michele Ryan and Professor Mark Goodwin. These talks lead to discussion and comments from staff and students who attended the launch including working hours and commitments, maternity leave, mentoring and role models.
Mrs Paula Sanderson (College Manager) introduced Athena SWAN to those who attended the CEMPS launch event. This was followed by group discussions. Several topics were discussed by small groups and this information has been fed back to the College Working Group. These topics included how students and staff felt their working life could be improved, things that the college is doing well, whether an academic network would be beneficial and what staff and students would want this network to provide.
