Equality Objectives & Action Plans
Equality Objectives 2012 - 2016
The general equality duty requires public authorities, in the exercise of their functions, to have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Act;
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it;
- Foster good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and those who do not share it.
To ensure it meets its Specific Duties under the Public Sector Equality Duty, the University has agreed a number of Equality Objectives in relation to the aims of the general equality duty. These equality objectives supersede all previous equality schemes and related action plans although copies of these are available from the E&D team if required.
Action Plans
The current E&D Action Plan for 2012-13 details the key priorities on the University's equality and diversity agenda for this academic year. Actions within this plan aim to support the achievement of the University’s Equality Objectives (see above).
