Equality Impact Assessment - Consultation Group
A key role within the Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) process is that of the Consultation Group. To effectively meet the needs of the diverse groups of people at the University it is essential that we liaise with staff and students from different backgrounds who have experience of what the issues may be for people who identify with the protected characteristics*.
Our Consultation Group provides feedback both formal and informal and helps to guide and appraise policy formation within the University, drawing on the experiences of our Consultation Group members we are able to address areas of perceived discrimination or bias.
What would be involved?
- As a Consultation Group volunteer, you will be required to attend a short briefing session (no longer than 45 minutes) to give you an overview of the EIA process and what your role will be within it.
- We will ask you to provide feedback on the EIAs we complete, based on your experiences and opinions.
- The number of consultations you take part in is entirely your choice and will depend upon your availability.
How will the consultations take place?
- You will either be invited to attend a Consultation Group meeting or to participate in a consultation exercise via email using a feConsultation Group Feedback Form.
- Consultation Group meeting: A Consultation Group meeting will be made up of approximately 12 volunteers plus a representative of the department or college who has submitted the EIA for consultation. A member of the Equality and Diversity team will chair the Consolation Group and you will be asked to provide verbal feedback, to ask the representative questions if you are unclear on any of the EIA details, and to contribute in the consultation and discussions.
- Email consultation: Email consultation is much more informal, you will be emailed a completed EIA and supporting documentation, asked to complete the Consultation Group Feedback Form which will guide you to share your opinions and provide feedback.
