Engaging teaching - working with school pupils - (1 & 1/2 day session)

About this course: Would you like to spend some time exploring how to make your sessions appeal to school aged children? Do you organise or deliver sessions for school pupils to visit your department, or go to school and work with pupils there? Do you know what your responsibilities are? This is an deep dive session we hope will open the door on more exciting and dynamic lessons.
Learning outcomes: As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:. - Understand what pupils expect a lesson to look like. - Know how to plan more engaging delivery. - Know how to work with teachers and staff in school. - Understand how behaviour management works. - Know about our role in raising aspirations and Widening Participation. This training is over two days so please make sure you can attend both dates. This is the second part of the course, part 1 covers safeguarding and keeping pupils safe. You do not need to attend the half day to attend this course, but you might find it supports your learning if you are unfamiliar with how schools work.
Who should attend this course: This course is for staff who teach school age children and pupils on the university site or in school. If you are teaching children, preparing resources or taking larger groups more than once, then this course will look in more depth at engaging delivery, assessment and behaviour expectations. This training is over two Tuesdays 1 week apart- please make sure you can attend both dates.
