Steve Popham aiming to raise £2,000 to help Children with Cancer

As you may or may not know, I’m taking part in the London Marathon again next year and once again raising monies for Children With Cancer UK. After two years of fantastic generosity from you we’ve raised more than £3,600 and I’m hoping we can add more to this figure this time around. The vital work that the charity perform can be seen on their website.

I’m hoping to raise £2,000 this time and, although a high sum, I know through all the support you’ve given in previous years, that this is totally achievable. There are two methods by which you could donate monies towards the cause. They are as follows:

  1. Going on to my Virgin Money Giving webpage. There you can follow the instructions to make a donation. If asked about gift aid, please allow this to be added as it increases each donation without any extra cost to you. The webpage is open from now until 6 months after the event. The actual marathon is on 21 April 2013.
  2. Lauren Crowland and myself have both got sponsorships forms so if you would prefer, please visit us and put your name down with a donation.

In addition to this there will be several events over the next few months organised by Lauren (undoubtedly involving cake)!

I really appreciate any contribution you can make and will let you know how training is going over the coming months.

Exeter team cycles 1,000 miles in 10 days to raise £10k

A University of Exeter team cycled over 1,000 miles in just 10 days to raise money for local charity Hospiscare.

The team is made up of five University of Exeter staff and Paul Gibbins, Partner of J&A Gibbins local catering butcher and supplier to the University.

The journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats is to raise funds in memory of Karen Foggett, a former University employee who worked in the Campus Services Retail team. Karen sadly passed away in April of this year, but was cared for by Hospiscare and their dedicated team of staff.

Phil Rees-Jones, University of Exeter Assistant Director of Retail and team leader for the challenge explained: “We were overwhelmed by the care and support Karen was given and wanted to give something back to Hospiscare to help them continue their good work. We are all keen cyclists but never have any of us ever attempted such a demanding challenge as this."

Anyone wishing to support the Karen Foggett Memorial Cycle can do so via their Just Giving page or visiting the Corporate Sponsorship packages on the challenge website.
