'Poole Gate' recognises 45 years of service

A road on the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus has been named Poole Gate.

The new drive was named in honour of ex Foreman Sandy Poole who devoted over 45 years of his life to working on the University’s grounds. The drive, off Prince of Wales Road, will act as a key access point to the University’s new Forum.

David Allen OBE, Registrar and Deputy Chief Executive said: "Sandy has been a reliable and highly regarded colleague and true friend to so many colleagues from all walks of life in the University and his horticultural knowledge is second-to-none. Your family can be immensely proud of what you have achieved and your legacy to this special place."

Sandy, who continues to support the University on a casual basis, commented: "It is a great honour to have Poole Gate named after me, I have always enjoyed working at the University, the grounds are a fantastic part of Exeter and have developed and changed significantly throughout the years. I was very proud to be able to cut the ribbon with my grandchildren and have them celebrate this special day with me."
