About the University Family Centre
The University of Exeter provides a purpose-built Family Centre which stands in its own grounds on the Streatham Campus.
University staff, students and parents from the community may use the Centre. We cater for children from six weeks to five years of age.
The Family Centre provides an environment in which the individual needs of children and parents are respected and supported and where a high standard of care and education go hand in hand. We aim to provide a happy, safe, secure and stimulating environment, in which each child can develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually at their own rate.
Children can come for a minimum of two days a week for a minimum of one term. The same sessions must be booked each week. Full-time and full-day children are catered for and a cooked mid-day meal is provided during the morning session. Tea is provided during the afternoon.
Children have the opportunity to play with a wide range of materials, toys, educational equipment and climbing apparatus. Special sessions of cooking, music and movement, gardening, ICT, dance and drama are also enjoyed, particularly by the older children. Outside play is part of every session and the children benefit from walks around our outstanding campus. For the older children we have recently opened our Forest School; a large area of wild woodland adjacent to the Family Centre which has been fenced in and is only accessible from the Family Centre grounds.
Children are divided, according to age, into small groups, each having its own staff, toileting area and playground. This makes for safe, secure units where good relationships are fostered between the children, parents and staff and where the children are known individually.
We accept the Government Early Years Entitlement for funded three and four year-olds and 2Gether funding for eligible 2 year olds.
